Chargers Fans Take Over the Big Easy
Chargers fans came out in droves to the Big Easy, turning New Orleans into their own personal tailgate party in the days leading up to Sunday’s game vs. the Saints.
“We’ve ended up going to one road game every year for the last five years,” said 27-year old Dominick White, who proudly wore a Ryan Mathews jersey while his father, Daniel, had on a Dan Fouts jersey. “When we first saw the schedule we both said this is where we had to go this year. But there are more Chargers fans out here than any place we’ve been over the last few years.”
No matter where you looked this weekend, you couldn’t help but see someone representing the Chargers. From powder blue jerseys to t-shirts displaying the lightning bolt, fans invaded the entire Crescent City, from the French Quarter up to the Garden District.
“This has been more fun that I even thought,” said 22-year old Aaron Budd, who travelled to the game with four of his college friends. “It’s Chargers fan after Chargers fan. We’re making this our city. I can’t wait for Sunday night!”
Most impressed by the strong turnout was Chairman of the Board and President Dean Spanos, who in all his years with the team couldn’t think of a stronger turnout by the fan base.
“I’ve been told by some locals that they have never seen so many fans from a visiting team in New Orleans other than their rival Atlanta Falcons,” he said. “It’s been incredible the last several days having the opportunity to interact with all Chargers fans here for the game. Without a doubt we have the greatest fans in the NFL!”
