Fan Q&A: Cam Thomas
Tipping the scale at 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds, Cam Thomas has the physique to develop into a nose guard.
Drafted in the fifth round, the Chargers hope Thomas can impact what already is a strong defensive line.
Thomas led a North Carolina defense that became the top-ranked unit in the ACC last season. Predominantly a run stopper in college, the Chargers look at Thomas as a young player with the potential to become a part of the defensive line.
He spoke with Chargers.com on Friday to answer your questions.
Philip Jones; Phoenix, Ariz.
Where did you get the nickname Baby Godzilla?
Somebody on Twitter posted a picture of a baby Godzilla and mentioned I should change my name to that.
Jared Cox; Bremerton, Wash.
What contributions do you expect to bring in your first year as a Charger?
Plug the gap, push the pocket, and that’s basically what they want me to do.
Adam Arballo; Escondido, Calif.
How has your relocation come along, and did you find a nice home to live in?
I’m loving San Diego right now, but I am still trying to find a house.
Eddie Zamora; Rialto, Calif.
What is the best workout you can do to get bigger, stronger, and faster?
Anything that will get me bigger, faster, and stronger.
Shane D.; Santa Fe, N. M.
During the draft, how was it waiting for your name to be called, and what did you feel when you knew you were going to become a Charger?
It was stressful, but it was good. It was a great opportunity, and in the end it’s, not where you start it’s, how you finish.
Marco Platero; Ensenada, Mexico.
What are your goals for your rookie season?
Each day just get a little better.
Fred Bunge; Albuquerque, N.M.
What has been the toughest part of preparing yourself for your first NFL season?
There is some physical toughness, but basically it’s all mental.
Paul Noga; Las Vegas, Nev.
Have you had a chance to meet with defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and get a feeling about what he wants from you individually?
Basically he told me to work on using my hands and just focus on the mental part of the game.
Eric Simmons; Brighton, Mich.
How are you adjusting to the 3-4?
It’s no different than Carolina. It’s a Texas-style defense, smell blood in the water and go get it, kind of like a shark.
Jared Dobecki; Hollister, Calif.
What have you enjoyed more, North Carolina’s pulled pork sandwiches, or California’s In-N-Out burger?
I haven’t tried In-N-Out burger yet, so I can’t really make a fair decision.
