Internship General Guidelines
PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATION FOR 2013.
Applicants must be legally permitted to work in the United States. International students must have all visas and employment authorizations prior to the start of the internship. Students must be within the United States at the time of the application and interview processes.
Applicants must be available from mid-July 2013 through the end of the football season.
First consideration will be given to:
Seniors in an undergraduate program; current seniors intending to enter a graduate or professional school in the fall of 2013; or graduate or law students returning to school in the fall of 2013
- Undergraduate students with an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 and 3.2 in their major;
- Graduate students with a GPA of at least a 3.2;
Internships dates vary depending on department needs. Applicants will be asked to provide their availability in the application. Work hours and days will vary by position and responsibilities.

Applications will be accepted beginning February 28, 2013 and must be received by April 30, 2013.
The San Diego Chargers internship program is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-July 2013.
Internships are available in the following departments:
Accounting
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Prepare training camp and game day seasonal employee new hire packets.
- Verify all new hire forms are completed correctly.
- Update seasonal employee payroll file (Excel format)
- Create or update personnel files for new seasonal hires.
- Assist accounts payable as follows: invoice coding, copy checks and assemble with invoices, mail checks and file paid invoices.
- Prepare Excel spreadsheets as needed.
- Pull back-up documentation as requested.
- Miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned.
Creative Services
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the design, direction and production of collateral materials to ensure content and theme reflects seasonal branding and objectives. This includes marketing proposals, annual reports, sales brochures, event programs, invitations, newsletters and program materials.
- Assist with formulating budgets and comprehensive reviews of production quotes.
- Organize and maintain digital asset archives, catalog photography and audio assets. Fulfill requests as needed.
- Coordinate the organization of historic photography assets from slides and prints. Scan, restore and create searchable archive of these materials using current software.
- Propose new and innovative design and collateral ideas.
Community Relations
Season Internship:
- Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Facilitation and processing of all charitable donations;
- Assisting with all administrative duties including correspondence, filing, etc.;
- Assisting with coordination and execution of all CR and player involved community activities during training camp and season;
- Assisting with all CR game day operations including; field presentations, gate collections, staffing Community Corner table and escorting special guests during home games.
Training Camp Internship:
- Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with running 10 youth football camps
- Assisting with registration of practice guests
- Setting up and facilitating hospitality for guests to camp
- Acting as fan liaison during practices
Digital Media, Chargers.com
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Support the Digital Media Group in executing the vision of team website and social media channels.
- Ability to update all forms of website content throughout the day.
- Ability to write stories on players and coaches, practice reports, notebooks and quick blog style.
- Record and transcribe post-practice interviews from open locker room.
- Cover team press conferences and interviews, and other organizational activities.
- Ability to take photographs and create photo galleries.
- Develop and maintain the club’s E-newsletters.
- Have working knowledge of popular and emerging social media platforms.
- Monitor our social media fan trends and deliver adequate reporting to digital media department on weekly basis.
- Stay current with developments in HTML email marketing to improve campaign strategies.
Digital Media - Videographer/Editor Intern, Chargers.com
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Capture, create, and maintain video content specific to Chargers.com
- Responsible for shooting and editing HD video
- Create short-form video packages, specific but not limited to team press conferences and other organizational activities,(ie. Community and Marketing events, Cheerleader appearances, etc.)
- Create graphics packages for video features using Adobe After Effects
- Shoot live game footage including post-game sessions and press conferences with media.
- Must be able to set up lighting and equipment.
- Updating and posting video using NFL CMS.
- Encoding video for website.
- Must be able to understand and conceptualize goals and execute the project
- Work closely with Digital Media Staff to ensure quality, consistency, and creative flow of the overall goals.
Marketing & Sales
Season Internship:
- Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Setting up and hosting of Training Camp hospitality
- Getting autographs for sponsorship fulfillment
- Assisting with all marketing events and promotions during the season
Gameday promotions
Supporting the sales & service staff with various administrative tasks
Training Camp Internship:
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Setting up and hosting of Training Camp hospitality
- Getting autographs for sponsorship fulfillment
- Gameday promotions
- Assisting with various sponsorship fulfillment
Public Relations
Season Internship:
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Daily clips from websites featuring news about Chargers, AFC West and NFL
- Help facilitate player media requests
- Update Chargers.com player bios
- Provide writing support for all Chargers’ publications
- Assist with press box set-up/press conference room on gamedays
- Handle administrative duties, including filing and answering phones
- Assist with credential management and distribution process
- Transcribe player interviews and all press conferences
- Act as fan liaison during practices
- Coordinate daily media activities during open-locker-room sessions and practice
- Research connections for game release
- Catalog photos on Photofile
- Oversee media center and roll-up upkeep
- Help with press conference set-up
- Coordinate media lunches during given days
- Assist with compiling and mailing media packets to game broadcasters and crew
- Serve as primary liaison with college sports information departments, overseeing collection of information on drafted players and undrafted free agents signed, as well as additional information on current Chargers
- Scan all Spanos’ images from file and upload them to server/photo archive software
Training Camp Internship:
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
Ticket Sales/Services
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with all administrative duties including correspondence, filing, etc.
- Coordination of customer surveys, written and phone.
- Orchestration and coordination of Chargers related events and functions;
- Provide support for the sales and services departments on an as needed basis.
- Maximize efficiency in the sales and services areas within a continually growing and changing customer base.
Stadium Operations
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Carry out pre-planned event assignments as directed in order to ensure the desired results for each event. Such events include pre- and post-game events, private events and any other Chargers-related events held at the stadium.
- Assist in the building operations with regards to facilities readiness condition
- Coordinate event planning and set up
- Assist with the inventory of received shipments and promotional products
- Assist with Stadium Operations staff game day duties
- Help execute promotional distributions at Qualcomm Stadium
- Work in tandem with the entire San Diego Chargers staff to meet all stated objections while maintaining a positive attitude
- Perform in a manner consistent with the Organization’s stated principles, values and mission statement
Suite Services Intern
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
- Must be able to work home Charger games as well as other events held at Qualcomm Stadium. Please note games/ events may fall on holidays and weekends
- Assist Suite Sales and Services Executives with game day responsibilities as well as provide support on an as needed basis
- Assist with all administrative duties including correspondence, filing, etc.
- Maintain internal CRM database
- Orchestration and coordination of Chargers related events and functions
- Assist with large mailings of sales materials, ticket materials etc.

Please note: The internship program is designed as an educational experience for qualified students and does not constitute a contract of employment. Company employee benefits, including but not limited to vacation, sick days, bonus or health and welfare plans are not available to participants in the internship program. While the program will encompass a learning environment for students, interns may be required to perform such tasks as: answering phones, running errands, typing, photocopying, and filing.
