The San Diego Chargers and Mission Federal Team Up to Score Financial Fitness Points for Students at Sunnyslope Elementary School

San Diego Chargers player Quentin Jammer made a special visit to inspire local youth in Imperial Beach on Tuesday, Dec. 6.  Quentin's appearance at Sunnyslope Elementary School was to announce the two essay winners of Mission Federal Credit Union's Financial Fitness Touchdown Challenge essay contest. These two special student winners, Andree Marquez and
Emma Pacana, will have the unique honor of being V.I.P’s at today’s game and on the field representing their school for a special Mission Federal Credit Union check presentation prior to kickoff.

This year, Sunnyslope Elementary, a Mission 2 $ave credit union at school partner school, is Mission Federal Credit Union’s nonprofit partner of choice for the Mission Fed Chargers Financial Fitness Touchdown Challenge. For every touchdown the Chargers score this season, Mission Fed is making a donation to Sunnyslope Elementary to fund financial education classes. In addition, Mission Fed sponsored the Chargers star cornerback for a visit with 65 students at the school who participated in the Financial Fitness TD Challenge Essay Contest component of the partnership. The students submitted essays on the topic of the importance of financial and physical fitness in their lives and described who inspires them to be the best person they can be.

Quentin was happy to present Andree and Emma with autographed Chargers hats and take photos with them at the podium. As a special surprise there were also two honorable mention winners, Armando Ramirez and Brianna Rodriguez who received autographed Chargers footballs. All 65 students who wrote essays received gift bags, including to booklets on staying physically and financially fit, and fun football themed giveaways.

In addition to the two winning essayists attending the game last Sunday vs. Buffalo, Mission Federal also made a contribution of $5,000 to Sunnyslope Elementary to fund financial education classes.
